Going to 1st coin show tomorrow - what to expect? (TSNS, Chattanooga)

Going here with a friend tomorrow.

Mostly numi stuff or a lot of raw bullion too?

Sky high premiums, or everyone trying to beat each other?

Lots of dealers and trading, or a few tables with people milling around shooting the shit?

Depends.

You probably won't see too much bullion. The last show I was they had a couple of guys pretty ambitious with it but the rest were numi's.

Don't expect anyone to have a Brinks truckload of 10 oz ingots or anything like that, probably coins/rounds only.

Deals? I think you might find the best deals at coin shows. Depends who is there.

I've been there before, not real big but a nice show.

I also plan to go to that show on the first day (Friday, Nov. 6). I plan to get there early.

Most of the it will probably be numi gold and silver but there is usually some gold and silver bullion. You might have to spend some time seeking out the gold and silver bullion but there will be some there. There will be a little of everything from the sky high premiums to the great deals. You will have to look around and you might want to make several trips on some of the tables because you might miss something on the first walk around. Camp Jordan arena is a big place IMO and you might miss something on the first walk around. I would make about 4-5 walks around all of the tables just to make sure that you did not miss anything.

I would get there just before it opens at 10 A.M. I might go the next day but that depends on how Friday goes for me.

There were a lot of people there last year when I went to this show. It is a good show to go to IMO.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

We will probably get there about 1pm tomorrow. Is there some kind of sales tax exemption for shows like that? I hate paying 9.5% tax...

I don't know what the law is in Tn.
Here in S. Carolina there is no tax on coins.

Normally coin shops have to charge 9.5% on anything in TN.

Expect to see a sea of slabbed Morgan dollars.

The guy I'm going with will be in heaven then. He loves those things. I'd rather have something pure and that has an actual nice, rounded weight to it.

Oh well. At least there is going to be a Ruth's Chris on the way there. If nothing else, I can have a good filet.

sounds like fun! Locally, a lot of the dealers just list prices using teh greysheets. So no deals to be found in my area. N
body charges tax here either. Strictly cash & carry.

Let us know how it goes.

Reading COIN WORLD I see that the dirt bags are following some sheeple home; or when they stop their "cars" are hit when they sleep or eat.

Caution is the word of the day. CODE PINKY-YELLOW!

I'm sure Chattanooga Coin will have a table, Lewis Revels owner, was a regular 18-19yrs ago on the Shop At Home tv channel, he's a "legend in his own mind." I stopped getting their catalogues in the mail a few yrs ago, they were good for a laugh...

Another suggestion?

I went to the last coin show (Sat and Sun) on Saturday and it was hopping. Looked through some stuff and bought a couple of pieces of silver.

Went Sunday about an hour before they closed, some guys had already folded. But the good thing was these guys were tired and tend to get a little more 'dealish' near the end. I find it good to start conversations about their numis(they love this stuff) and ask a lot of questions. Then ask about bullion and to look at it. Do the old 'should I or shoudln't I' bit and tell them you can't decide between their stuff and someone elses, go back and forth. Also, bring a little kid with you, they give them all kinds of free stuff, the cuter the better. I got some Canadian and US small coinage proofs for next to face value. I don't really collect it or anything but they are neat to look at.

Found this guy with some of that Canadian Olympic silver. He wasn't a bullion man (had some beechin old stuff from Jesus' time) and had acquired them as a lot at an estate sale. Just wanted to get rid of them. Got them at several dollars under spot. Met a guy with a lot of Sovereigns and got his card. (Get cards of bullion people). Get some contacts so you can call them later when you are ready to buy. They'll tend to give a lot better deal than online.

Entered a raffle and forgot about it. Got back home from a trip and there was this package waiting for me. I had won! A little short lived excitement. Got some numi-packaged president dollars. Not worth much but still for free.

I don't have any kids I can bring. My girlfriend has big boobs, would that help? LOL

I will definitely pick up some business cards. The more people I can get to know, the better.

"I don't have any kids I can bring. My girlfriend has big boobs, would that help? LOL "

Immensely, that'll help immensely. Really! Its a big bargaining chip. Huge! Gigantic!

Seriously? I really think it will. Tell her to turn on the charm. Maybe tell her to cry because you can't afford to buy here that gold eagle. 20 bucks short.
Go away and then have her tell the guy you're a creep and she wants to ditch you. She also says she is really turned on by gold, how much for that Weiner thing?
Tee hee, I meant Weimer.

It may not help you pricewise - but you'll feel a lot better about it when you get home with your purchase!

Stopped into a coin shop I've been to before. a good guy and usually has stuff. He had only nic-nac gold, mostly African. No Eagles. No Maples. Pre-33 stuff at a stiff markup. He said he couldn't keep bullion in the store, it was out the door as soon as it was in. This is bullish as hell. Buy something for me at the coin show, will you please?
